The most recent census put the population of Ploce, a small modern harbour town in the County of Dubrovnik-Neretva, at 10,834. The town's location in a safe bay to the north of the mouth of the river Neretva on the Adriatic makes it an excellent seaport for shipping and receiving goods. Ploče port is Bosnia and Herzegovina's primary sea access.
Although tourism is not particularly important in Ploce compared to other Adriatic coastal towns, the proximity of the river Neretva and the beautiful Bacina lakes provides ideal conditions for industry growth. The Neretva valley is a fantastic place to go bird-hunting. Residents primarily earn their living through the fishing and farming industries, with citrus fruit production being a significant economic driver. The small, interconnected, and isolated lakes that makeup Bacina are among the most fascinating phenomena in karst hydrogeology.
Whether you're in town for a while or just passing through, we hope you'll take the time to stay in one of Ploce's high-quality private accommodations (apartments or rooms). So you can explore the stunning landscapes of the Neretva Delta and the Bacina lakes.
